Validity (VAL) review

Project materials divide Validity into two parts. The first is a ledger secured through proof-of-stake, with VAL as the asset used by network participants. The second is Validity Smartchain, an application layer proposed for identity credentials, non-fungible assets, reputation records, file checks, and voting. The network was formerly named Radium, and selected Smartchain actions also require VAL. Users should distinguish the publicly verifiable base chain from the second layer: the current technical document describes Validity Smartchain as closed source, which limits independent code review and makes its operator, data storage, upgrade process, availability, and trust assumptions especially important. Network validators and coin holders should inspect minimum stakes, custody, reward formula, inflation, commission, the withdrawal waiting period, slashing or penalty rules, validator concentration, uptime, governance, software releases, chain reorganizations, checkpoints, explorer reliability, and wallet backups. Identity and reputation users need to know which attributes are public or encrypted, who attests them, how keys are recovered, whether records can be corrected or revoked, how consent and deletion work, and whether any authority legally recognizes an on-chain credential. File verification proves only that later data matches a recorded hash; it does not prove authorship, legality, accuracy, or safe storage of the original. For VAL, check supply and issuance, foundation and development wallets, treasury spending, exchange deposits, liquidity, large-holder concentration, audits, and incidents. Staking yield, a long operating history, or broad Smartchain ambitions cannot guarantee decentralization, open verification, credential acceptance, application availability, liquidity, or price stability.
